National Occupational Standards

National Occupational Standards -

National Occupational Standards (NOS) for massage are still awaiting approval.  Skills Active (Sector Skills Council) expect the NOS to be 'signed off' in the next couple of months.  The NOS will be as follows:

D520 - Plan, apply and evaluate massage methods.

D521 - Plan, apply and evaluate massage methods to prevent and manage injury.

D522 - Plan, apply and evaluate complex massage/soft tissue methods.

Four awarding bodies are expected to develop their own qualifications for inclusion in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).  The qualifications will have to map to the NOS, and the awarding bodies will be encouraged to make the qualifications similar in size, i.e. credits in the QCF.  Qualifications will have to be approved by Skills Active before being placed in the QCF.
